Jan-Olov Hilmersson

Artist statement:
My way of working is very much based on "found" material and collecting various objects from different environments. In the found material, I constantly make new discoveries that later develop in a kind of cycle between exploration and creation where the found material is processed in different materials, techniques and expressions.

Name of art work:

Plant

Thoughts about the art work:

My work is inspired by graphic lattice elements as it appears in nature. Usually I use photos from my camera that are then processed in the computer. And then further processed in sketchbooks and experimenting with different materials and techniques. I see this in a combination of my interest in forged lattice constructions and generally how natural elements are reflected in our everyday constructions and design.

Describe the process; who, what, why, where, when, how and with what help:

For a long time, I have quite frequently used the sketchbook as an inspiring tool for thoughts and ideas and experimenting in various artistic processes. I believe that sketchbooks and notebooks are of great importance in an artistic process and in a learning process to further develop and deepen one's own artistry. Using documentation in sketchbook form can lead to a versatile and personal exploration of different artistic themes. This is something I want to further develop my interest in the sketchbook as a work tool.
