Janne Peltokangas

I create these forms that speak of my cultural heritage.

This thesis work is about my Sámi ancestry and my experiences growing up in Lapland. I grew
up in this mythical culture where spirits are everywhere and in everything. All this was
unconscious, and I realized how important that was for me once I had returned. My homecoming
was a mind-blowing experience, and it has had a huge impact on my work. The rough beauty of
the wilds of the Lapland and the old stories entwined into images I saw in my dreams. Later on, I
folded these thoughts and dreams through my artwork to understand fading memories and
traditions.
