Sabine Straub

Artist statement

Sequences, rhythms and sequences are the themes I deal with. I develop complex sculptures from modular elements, especially in the context of architecture. Deviations and dynamic processes are important methods to go to the limits of dissolution and derailment and to set the sculptures in motion.

 Thoughts about the art work

The meditative work on small series made of fine wire opens up periods of tranquillity. In the repetition and change of movement, an infinite line, a mesh, a surface of subtle entanglement emerges. It is surprisingly stable and yet transparent. Dimensions and spatiality blur, light and shadow add another component.

Describe the process who, what, why where

My work can be interpreted as a playful realisation of basic geometric forms. Using fine steel wire, I create three-dimensional drawings of autonomous spatial structures through superimposition and compression. The movement of the production process remains frozen and comprehensible as if in time. Each work is created under different paramenters: different materials, sizes or material thicknesses. It is about the development of different movements and their dynamic change as well as about the joy of experimentation within the self-imposed framework conditions.
